Maki Sultan and Thomas Rufino
The South Sudanese were completely overwhelmed by the Burundians who took the match more or less like a practice session.
Both coaches made several changes to their line ups as they sought to give each player a taste of action; Atletico was already sure of qualification while Salaam were sure of relegation and were mostly playing for experience.
Divin Gateretse opened the scores in the 3rd minute of the match finishing off a pass from the centre though he got injured in the process after colliding with the keeper.
Atletico doubled their lead in the 39th minute more or less in the same fashion as the first goal, this time Hussein Ciza being the scorer.
Atletico were to score three more goals in the second half with Fredrick Nsabiyumva heading in from a corner in the 49th minute though his header went off Salaam’s Santino Uyu.Emery Nimubona added a fourth from the penalty spot after Ismail Musa Juma fouled Hussein Ciza in the box.
Kevin Ndayisenga finished off the rout in the 57th minute to further increase Salaam’s Woes. The South Sudanese had a chance in the 69th minute with their best player and captain Oliver Paul Kangi’s shot being saved by the keeper after side stepping a defender.
Salaam now return home with as many goals as lessons and will be hoping they come back a better side next year. They have supped in a total of 19 goals in three matches.
