Malawi’s trip to Chad will evoke bitter memories for the Flames that are likely to serve as motivation for a strong start to their bid to qualify for the 2013 African Nations Cup finals.

It was in Ndjamena last October that Malawi were stymied in their bid to qualify for the 2012 finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

Malawi needed an away win in their last qualifying match in Chad to go through to the finals and were 2-1 up until the last minute when Chad got an equaliser that followed Tunis to go to the finals in  Malawi’s stead.

Malawi had beaten Chad 6-1 at home in the same preliminary campaign but are likely to find their opponents have toughened up since.

Coach Modou Kouta, who was in charge for only his second game when they drew 2-2 in Malawi, has had his side in training for two weeks ahead of Wednesday’s game in Ndjamena.

It will be reinforced by Kevin Nicaise from Belgian second division club La Louviere, who is expected to debut in the game; Ezechiel Ndouassel from Club African in Tunisia and Marius Mbaiam from Orleans in France.

Malawi suffered flight delays on route to Chad and arrived late on Monday night.
