Guinea Bissau came to Mandela stadium looking to bounce back in the campaign for 2012 Orange Africa Nations Cup finals to be jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. However, like the first match in March, they lost to Cranes and their chance of making to the finals look slim.

Cafonline.com caught up Bissau’s Portuguese coach Luis De Matos to comment about the match.

Cafonline.com: Coach De Matos another defeat. What is next for Guinea Bissau?
Luis De Matos: I think we knew before that Uganda (Cranes) is a strong side when they play at home and expected a lot of pressure from Uganda team and of course in the first half we had some difficult to play.

Our game was to go into halftime 0-0, but lucky goal for the opponents changed all that. But we had good reaction and nearly leveled in last minutes of first half. In the second half we tried to change things around but once again we made mistakes at the back for Uganda to score the second goal.

Cafonline.com: Do you mean the goals came a wrong time of the match?
Luis De Matos: You would say, but if you analysis the match itself the goalkeeper (Denis Onyango) made some fantastic saves at the critical moment of the game; we had no luck to score. Of course Uganda is a strong team had control of the match and had more of the ball. We could have played differently if we had scored at least a goal.

Cafonline.com: Where does this leave you in the group with two matches to go?
Luis De Matos: Our objective is to prepare for the future; we have a very young team. I must congratulate my young players. The next game is against Kenya away, we must try our best and our best is to try to win the game and the last one against Angola the same. We are going to try our best to win the next game.

Cafonline.com: You had a length talk with your counterpart from Uganda (Bobby) before and after the match. What was the issue?
Luis De Matos: That is normal to thank him of his team’s good performance. Even before the match both of us had a long chat. That is a good sign of respect as coaches. I wished him the best and he also did the same.
