Kaizer Chiefs completed a domestic double when they defeated SuperSport United 1-0 in the final of the Nedbank Cup on Saturday afternoon at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Bernard Parker scored the winner in the fourth minute of extra time after the match had ended goalless in regulation time.

In the 13th minute Chiefs had their first chance of the match when Siphiwe Tshabalala slipped in a defence splitting pass to Lehlohonolo Majoro, but the striker toe poked his effort straight at United keeper Ronwen Williams from close range.

The best opening of the game in the first half fell the way of United midfielder George Maluleka. The former Ajax Cape Town player played a one-two with teammate Kermit Erasmus on the edge of the box, but as Maluleka’s effort was deflected over the bar with Chiefs keeper Itumeleng Khune stranded.

Ten minutes into the second half Tshabalala found space 20-yards out from goal and let rip a powerful shot that just went over the bar. Seconds later at the other end, Erasmus outpaced the Chiefs defence but he ran out of space as he could only toe poke his effort wide of goal.

In the 64th minute Chiefs put pressure on the United defence from a counter attack when George Lebese picked out Parker and the Bafana Bafana striker forced a stupendous flying save from Williams with a curling shot from the edge of the box.

In the 90th minute Parker could have scored straight from a corner kick but his in-swinging delivery was cleared off the line by United player Franklyn Cale who got his head in the way.

Chiefs made the breakthrough four minutes into the second half when Parker received the ball just outside the box and unleashed a left footed low shot which beat Williams on his left side of goal.

United finished the match with 10 men after veteran striker Sibusiso Zuma pulled off with a hamstring injury in with second half of extra time.

Cameroon football descended into chaos on Saturday when the government suspended elections at the football federation (Fecafoot).

The poll was scrapped "for security reasons", according to the National Olympics and Sports Committee.

Three candidates were battling for the top job - incumbent Iya Mohammed and first vice-president John Begheni Ndeh.

Marlene Emvoutou, the only female in the race, was considered no more than a stalking horse.

Caf and Fifa representative Adoum Djibril is already in Yaoundé for the elections and was said to be holding meetings with Fecafoot delegates.

The controversy began when Mohammed - Fecafoot president for the last 15 years - was ruled ineligible to stand again by the National Olympics and Sports Committee.

This followed an appeal against his candidature by former friend and right-hand man Ndeh.

Ndeh argued that his opponent was not fit to hold public office, given his ongoing travails at the Cameroon Cotton Development Corporation.

Mohamed is currently embroiled in corruption allegations with regards to his management of the corporation.

The Supreme State Audit recently suspended him from holding any managerial position for seven years after millions of dollars went missing from the company.

Whilst Ndeh is touted as the candidate of change who can mend Fecafoot's relations with the government, Mohamed is seen by his supporters as a safe pair of hands, albeit a divisive one.

Mohammed's presidency has been much criticised in recent times and is said by critics to be responsible for the poor state of Cameroon football.

Sports Minister Adoum Garoua was forced to back down on his decision to block elections in April after Fifa warned that his move was tantamount to government interference.

<![CDATA[Nshimiyamana names squad for Mali]]>Fri, 24 May 2013 11:10:14 GMThttp://africansoccer.weebly.com/1/post/2013/05/nshimiyamana-names-squad-for-mali.htmlPictureRwanda
Rwanda coach Eric Nshimiyimana has named a 26-man squad that will begin camp on Sunday to prepare for the Group H 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Mali away in Bamako on June 9.

Addressing a news conference yesterday at Ferwafa house in Remera, Nshimiyimana who was appointed head coach last month replacing his former boss and current Uganda Cranes coach Sredojovic Milutin Micho named a squad of 21 players from the domestic league and five foreign based players.

“We have spent a month following players playing in the Primus league and we will solely field local players because we want to have as many of them getting the needed exposure ahead of the CHAN finals in 2016.”

“The country’s policy is to give a chance to Rwandan players and for two or three years, we will stop relying fully on professional players but put emphasis on identifying potential players plying their trade in local first and second division leagues.”

“We need to implement the objective of being able to have a good and solid team in future.

There is need to give them exposure in a bid to gain experience and confidence and have a wide pool of local players to rely on. ”

“However, this will not stop Amavubi from meeting its target which is to win every match as it comes by. We are going to Mali for a positive result though we still have nothing to fight for in as far as qualifying for next year’s World Cup final is concerned,” added Nshimiyimana.

The players who will be making their maiden debut in Amavubi team include; Isonga goal keeper Steven Ntalibi who was with the Under 17 which participated in the 2011 World Cup finals in Mexico, midfielder Muhamed Mushimiyimana [AS Kigali] and striker Michel Ndahinduka [Bugesera].

Amavubi skipper Olivier Karekezi [CA Bizertin], Solomon Nirisarike [Antweerp], Elias Uzamukunda [AS Cannes] and Young Africans duo of Mbuyu Twite and Haruna Niyonzima are the only professional players that have been summoned for the return World Cup qualifying leg against Mali.

In March, Amavubi blew up their chances of qualifying to the second round of the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign following a 2-1 loss to the Eagles of Mali.

Meddie Kagere put the hosts ahead in the first half before the lead was cancelled through Abdou Traore with Samassa Mamahadou snatching the winner.

This disappointing loss, coupled with a loss against Algeria and a draw against Benin, meant that Rwanda was out of the running for Brazil.

The impressive victory put the Eagles in second position tied on six points with leaders Algeria in Group H, and boosting their bid to travel to Brazil next year.

Rwanda lies bottom of the standings with one point with three matches remaining to the end of the qualifying campaign. The matches include two away matches against Mali and Benin and a home tie against Algeria.
