Tunisian giants Esperance Tunis have announced the appointment of Sebastien Desabre as the club’s head coach to replace Maher Kanzari.
The 37-year-old Frenchman, who left Cameroonian side Coton Sport last month, was initially recruited to handle the youth outfit of Esperance but was promoted to occupy the vacant post when Dutchman Ruud Krol and coach of CS Sfaxien declined the job.
Desabre will hold a press conference on Friday in Tunisia, a day after his first training session at the Hassene Belkhodja Park with the Blood and Gold.
Desabre first job as a coach in Africa was at Ivory Coast’s club Asec Mimosas in 2010.
Demba Ba was on the scoresheet for Chelsea against Southampton at the weekend, coming on for Michael Essien who struggled early on.
The Senegal striker notched his side's third goal in a 3-1 come-from-behind win against the visitors at Stamford Bridge.
Also in England, his compatriot Mohamed Diamé scored his first goal of the season as West Ham thrashed Fulham 3-0.
There were goals also for Africans Moustapha Bayal Sall, who plays for Senegal as well, of St Etienne and Vincent Aboubakar of Lorient in France.
Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan scored a brace in Al Ain's comfortable 5-2 drubbing of Emirates at home in the UAE Arabian Gulf League on Friday.
Gyan scored Al Ain's fourth goal from inside the box with a perfect finish to the far post from the right in injury time of the first half.
The Ghanaian also netted in the 68th minute with a powerful header from a free-kick restoring his team's four-goal lead.
Gyan's double took his season tally to eight and now within a goal of leading scorers Edgar Silva (Shabab) and Grafite (Al Ahli).
Nigeria’s Taye Taiwo and Promise Isaac were among the goal scorers as their clubs won away games in the Turkey Super League.
