Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah has won the Swiss Golden Player Award 2013 an award given by the Swiss Association of Football Players (SAFP) for being the best player in the Swiss league during the 2012/2013 season. He received the prize at a ceremony on Monday.
"I would like to thank my teammates at Basel who helped and taught me a lot," Salah said after receiving the prize.
Since joining Basel last season from Egypt's Arab Contractors, Salah has quickly established himself as one of the team's key elements at both the domestic and continental levels, scoring nine goals in all competitions.
Senegal and Chelsea striker Demba Ba came on at the start of the second half for Ghana ace Michael Essien and scored in the 90th minute after stabbing home a Ramires ball to complete a 3:1 comeback win over visitors Southampton.
Southampton had taken the lead after just 13 seconds when Essien blundered by playing the ball back into his area and English striker Jay Rodriguez took full advantage.
In Germany Mame Biram Diouf netted in the 25th minute for Hannover 96 to ignite a 2:0 win over visiting Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
It was the former Manchester United striker's third goal of the campaign.
Nigerian striker, Peter Odemwingie scored for Cardiff City in the Barclays English Premier League on Saturday in the club’s 1-2 loss to Newcastle United at the Cardiff City stadium.
Odemwingie scored after 58 minutes after turning Fabricio Coloccini inside out before unleashing a powerful low shot from the edge of the area that beat the Newcastle United goalkeeper, Tim Krul.
The goal which was the attacker’s first for the club in the league however represented scant consolation for the Bluebirds as they failed to find another goal to restore parity.
The Cardiff City Manager, Malky Mackay said Odemwingie’s goal was important as it gave his side the impetus to try and score a second.
Ghana winger Andre Ayew netted his first goal in nine league games to seal a 2-0 win for his club Olympique Marseille at the home of Lorient in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday.
The young winger beat the goalkeeper at the near post in stoppage time after he was set up by Tunisia striker Saber Khelifa who joined Marseille from Evian TG in the summer.
It was Ayew's first goal of the season and it broke a scoreless spell that stretched back to May.
Younger brother Jordan Ayew started alongside Andre as the central striker, but was replaced just before the hour mark by Khelifa.
