Neil Lennon was last night homing in on giant Congolese defender Cedric Mongongu as his second major summer signing.

The Celtic boss has stepped up his efforts to land the £1.5million-rated centre-back from French side Evian and hopes to add him to last week’s capture of Guinea-Bissau born striker Amido Balde.

Mongongu, who is 6ft 2in, has gained a reputation as a no-nonsense defender after breaking through as a 17-year-old at Monaco six years ago.

The DR Congo international – who has 10 caps – played 79 games in the Principality before moving to Evian in 2011.

Ogenyi Onazi’s Lazio defeated bitter city rivals Roma 1-0 to clinch the Coppa Italia, while Celtic, parading Nigeria defender Ambrose, won the league and cup double after they trounced Hibernian 3-0 in Sunday’s cup final.

Senad Lulic’s strike 20 minutes from time means Lazio will feature in next season’s UEFA Europa League.

For Celtic, it was their first league and cup double since 2007.

Nigeria international Efe Ambrose told MTNFootball.com that winning the league and cup double with Celtic in Scotland was a dream come true.

Wanyama joins Motherwell boss Stuart McCall and Hibernian's Leigh Griffiths in winning the annual awards, with the latter pair having been named as Manager and Player of the Season respectively.

Also nominated for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award, the 21-year-old lost out to Griffiths in the union's prize.

Celtic have taken French defender Steven Mouyokolo, who's eligible for Congo, on trial.

The 26-year-old centre-back has been handed an opportunity to impress Neil Lennon and his coaching staff and has been training with Celtic's first team squad at their Lennoxtown complex.

Mouyokolo, who is a free agent after his contract with Wolves was terminated by mutual consent in January, counts Hull City and Sochaux among his former clubs.

The player began his career with Chateuaroux in French Ligue 2 before spells at Guegnon and Boulogne.

Victor Wanyama
Victor Wanyama thinks he will still be a Celtic player next season.

The Kenya midfielder has been tipped to move to a richer club since starring in Celtic's Champions League group-stage win over Barcelona.

And manager Neil Lennon has admitted he might struggle to keep his top players despite back-to-back title wins.

But Wanyama, who has been nominated for the PFA Scotland young player of the year award, said: "I love it here at Celtic, so I'll be here next season."

In October, Lennon revealed that Wanyama had rejected the offer of a new contract beyond the four-year deal he signed when joining Celtic for £900,000 from Beerschot in July 2011.

Gabriel Reuben
Nigeria duo Gabriel Reuben and Papa Idris have followed similar paths to the Scottish Premier League, shining at Kano Pillars before switching to Kilmarnock in March.

Reuben, 22, is a disciplined midfielder whose biggest strength is his ability to break down oppositions play.

He was a member of the Super Eagles squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in February but he was prevented from playing after being struck down by chicken pox.

Central defender Idris, 23, has also played for the senior team but he too missed out on the success in South Africa, because of injury.
