Nigeria players celebrate
Nigeria cruised to the largest-margin of victory at this tournament, thrashing debutants Guatemala 5-0 in Armenia to begin their Group D campaign with a vital three points.

Two first-half strikes from Edafe Egbedi, and another three added by Ajagun, Kayode, and Musa in the second put the match well out of reach for the Central Americans.

The Africans came out looking to convince, assuming control through VVV-Venlo winger Ahmed Musa. The No7 troubled the Guatemalans all match long, distributing fine crosses into the Nigeria’s double scorer Egbedi and Olarenwaju Kayode.

Moussa Sow
Serie A side Genoa are have confirmed they could sign Lille striker Moussa Sow in a joint deal with Inter Milan this summer, similar to their Kevin-Prince Boateng deal with AC Milan last season.

Genoa had signed Boateng last summer only to immediately loan him to Milan and make a tidy profit when the Italian champions took up their option to keep the player.

The Grifone say a similar move is on the cards for the Senegal star, albeit he will be expected to spend the first season at Genoa this time around.

"We have a good rapport with Inter director Marco Branca and President Massimo Moratti," explained Genoa director of sport Stefano Capozzucca, according to Football Italia.

The Togo Football Federation (FTF) on Friday announced they had opened a call for a new coach of the country’s national team, which has existed without a “standard and home-based tactician” for the past four months after former coach Frenchman Thierry Froger resigned in March for personal reasons.

The FTF say they are in need of a high-level coach to take the Sparrow Hawks to a new level on the continent.

“The selection of the new coach will be carried out by the technical committee for recruitment in accordance with the terms of references and objectives of the FTF, which include qualifying for the 2013 African Cup of Nations and the 2014 Fifa World Cup,” the body said in a statement released by state television TVT on Saturday.

Wydad Casablanca have taken charge of Group B in the CAF Champions League after an emphatic 4-0 home win over MC Alger on Saturday evening.

With Esperance and Al Ahly set to meet in the group's other match on Sunday, the Moroccans now top the group on four points and have a healthy goal difference to boot.

Wydad opened the scoring after just two minutes through Congo forward Fabrice N'Guessi and playmaker Ahmed Ajeddou converted a penalty just after the half hour mark.

The two early goals effectively killed off the game as a contest and MC Alger managed to hold off the hosts for the better part of 40 minutes until Ayoub El Khaliq made it 3-0 in the 71st minute.

Esperance have beaten Egyptian giants Al Ahly 1-0 in their African Champions League Group B clash in Tunis on Saturday night.

The result was the same as the semifinal, second leg, in last year’s competition that part the Tunisians into the final.

The only goal of the game was scored in the first half by Esperance striker Joseph N'Djeng in front of the paltry 5 000 crowd that was allowed access into the stadium by security officials.

It might have been more for the Tunisians too as Oussama Darragi missed a penalty 20 minutes before full-time that could have given the scoreline a more emphatic look.

Cameroon players celebrate
Cameroon had 61 per cent of the possession and registered 23 shots, but an own-goal ultimately cost them victory over New Zealand in their Group B opener.

Christ Mbondi fired the Indomitable Lions ahead on 32 minutes, before Serge Tchaha headed the ball into the wrong net soon afterwards.

The game got off to a slow start, with Kiwi defender Andrew Bevin heading the only chance of the opening exchanges narrowly wide. Cameroon came mightily close to taking the lead on 21 minutes. Yazid Atouba did brilliantly to tee up Franck Ohandza, but the latter's close-range shot was denied by the post.
